The Aegis Frigate is the fleet's air-defense screen: a deck gun for surface work and rapid-firing SAMs that make it the only ship able to shoot aircraft. Tier 2 from the Advanced Naval Yard.
How to use
Escort every serious fleet with at least one Frigate, or naval strikers and bombers will pick your capital ships apart. Its deck gun is decent against gunboats and coastal targets, but keep it out of missile-boat range. It has no sonar and no torpedoes, so it needs a Destroyer alongside against submarines.
Anecdotes
The real Aegis is the shield of Zeus, borrowed by the US Navy in the 1960s for a radar and missile system built to do the same job: stop what is coming at the fleet before anyone has to dodge it.
