Is it free?

In the browser, yes, with nothing held back. On the App Store, Google Play and Steam it is $9.99, paid once. There are no ads, no accounts and no in-app purchases anywhere it is played.

What does it run on?

Any modern browser, on a desktop or a phone: on a phone it installs to the home screen and works offline, with its own touch controls. As an app, it is on the App Store, Google Play and Steam; the Download page lists them and marks the ones not up yet.

Can I play with friends, across platforms?

Yes. Matches run on a dedicated server, and a phone, a tablet and a desktop join the same one, in the same match: up to four factions, human or AI, with reconnect tokens, host pause and checkpoints.

Can I host my own server?

Yes. Dedicated, server-authoritative matches for up to four factions, on a machine of yours. One command installs it as a service on a Linux host; players join from the apps with its address, or from a browser once it has a domain and a certificate.

What is there to play alone?

A nine-mission campaign through the Gulf War of 1990–91 under other flags, in the order it was fought. Beyond it, Conquest on twenty maps or an endless random generator, and Breakthrough, the front line, both against four AI personalities: Relaxed, Standard, Seasoned and Veteran.

Can I mod it?

Yes. A mod adds units, buildings and upgrade levels as one JSON file with its art, is published in the open registry, and installs from the game's settings. The Mods page has the guide.

Can an AI agent play it?

Yes. The steel command line joins a server exactly as a player does, reads the battlefield and gives orders, and it carries a skill that lets a coding agent play. The Agent page explains how to set it up.
