The Sovereign Battleship is the Tier-3 capital ship: three heavy guns that bombard land and sea from extreme range with big splash, and a huge hit-point pool. It needs a Radar Station and a Deepwater Yard.

How to use

Park it off an enemy coast with a scout providing vision and level the base: turrets, factories and armies alike. Its main guns fire a three-shot salvo every 20 seconds, with a firing envelope of 4–17 tiles. It has no anti-submarine weapons. Its secondary battery fires at aircraft within 6.5 tiles while the main guns stay on their target, which keeps helicopters off it; Albatrosses fire from 8 tiles, beyond the secondaries. So it never sails alone: an Aegis escort against strike aircraft and submarines. It is expensive enough that losing one can decide a match. It is also a hull wider than a tile: it needs two tiles of water abeam and cannot enter a channel a tile wide, so a base behind a creek is out of its reach unless its guns can cover it from the sea outside.

Anecdotes

USS Missouri fired her sixteen-inch guns in anger for the last time in 1991, forty-seven years after she was launched. Each shell weighed about as much as a small car, and she could throw one twenty miles.
